Bio-Mechanical Assessment
If "Bio-Mechanical Assessment" all sounds too much then think of it this way. If, for example, you can't bend your ankle effectively then you will over-flex in the knee and hip joints to compensate as if sitting down. In terms of skiing this means that you will not be centred on the ski and your weight will be on your heels (which isn't so good). It doesn’t matter how good the coaching is; if you can’t bend your ankle, you can't be centred over the ski or board.
Through liaison with the Progression instructors, our physiotherapists have developed a biomechanical assessment based on the common problems in ski technique identified by instructors and trainers. At the start of the course we will carry out the assessment to see if there are any weaknesses that can be strengthened or adjusted. If a problem is detected, recommendations and an exercise programme follows; this can have a marked effect on your technique and ability to ski longer and better. If needs be there will be another free follow-up assessment.
Specific classes, either privately or in a group, are offered as an extra thereafter. The classes will be based around common weaknesses identified during biomechanical assessments and are specific to the muscles and joints used the most during your skiing.
Bio-mechanical assessments are included in the 10 week GAP course and the Seasonaires GAP programme. Assessments and follow-up classes can be arranged for individuals or groups by arrangement. Contact us on gap@progressionski.com for further details
